Days 127 and 128 - no wifi

Folks, I have no wifi in my room for the next two days. I'll therefore update when I can on Sunday evening (for me) hopefully.

04:30 does indeed seem to be my time for awaking at the moment! Up, and I was able to add the photos to yesterdays blog while the wifi was fast enough (but still very slow compared to other places I've been). I also took the opportunity to finish the weekly video, but had no intention of trying to load it to Youtube this morning as I had things to do today. The target for the next two days is to get to Broome on the west coast, but it's too far for one drive so I have an overnight in Halls Creek. I've had some warnings about Halls Creek; I was told yesterday to not go out after dark, so that sounds ominous. It's only ever been a staging point on the long drive, so it's not like it was a destination in itself. The plan for today was to explore a bit around Kununurra before leaving the area about midday for the three and a half hour, 357km drive to Halls Creek. Day 64 - Friday 8th March 2024

Today is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the whole trip with a long anticipated visit to Milford Sound; one of the natural wonders of the world. The forecast was for a rainy day, and when I set off in the dark from Te Anau I did wonder whether my run of good fortune and timing was going to come to an end. All of the wet weather gear was packed in my day pack, but was it needed? A stop off for a fuel top up before leaving Te Anau, and then onto the road just after 07:00 as the day began to get light. I had quite a list of things to look at today, and the first stop was at Eglinton Valley for the view of the mountains I was aiming for. The temperature was only 4 degrees, so it was a fairly quick stop before getting back on my way; it was the first time I'd had the heater on in the car. Day 69 - Wednesday 13th March 2024

Awake early this morning with a frisson of excitement about what I knew today had in store for me. If this knowledge wasn't enough, I also had the opportunity to make a couple of video calls to wish my nephews Benjamin and Sebastian a happy seventeenth birthday; it may have been tomorrow here, but it was still yesterday there! This morning I had the Shotover Jet trip booked; a jetboat trip up and down a river, through canyons and probably getting wet. Away from the hotel at 08:30, and I arrived at the river spot on 09:00 for my check in. Down to the river and a red hut, I was issued with a lifejacket and had some photos taken before boarding the boat. Prepare for the very unusual event of me appearing in a photo ....  Onto the boat, we had a briefing and then set off. First up the stream a bit; then back past the jetty for more photos before heading off downriver, dodging the canyon walls, traversing rapids and doing 360 degree spins all at speed.
