Day 8 - Friday 12 January 2024

After a physically exhausting but totally fantastic day yesterday, I awoke to post dawn sunlight greeting my eighth day away from home. I've planned to get my first laundry done a week in, and I delivered this to reception on my way to breakfast.

I'd just poured my first cup of coffee and taken it to a table overlooking Cook's Bay when I noticed one of my fellow guests (we have 4 rooms occupied now!) with his Gopro taking interest in something at the end of the dock ....... no, I'm still not sure what to call it. I decided to go and investigate (and have a chat), and there was a huge turtle just below the surface feeding on the reef.

At about the same time, a large white sailing cruise liner entered the bay, and anchored just a bit further in from us. Back to breakfast, and as I watched the ship preparing for its day I could see it swinging at anchor, and thought that might be pretty cool for a time lapse, so after breakfast I returned with the Gopro (I made sure it was level this time; turns out the steps I've put the tripod on aren't entirely level!) and let it run for over an hour. The footage works well, but is a bit too similar to the first Bryan's Briefs to be released on its own, but it may well appear in the weekly vlog.

I had absolutely no plans for today, so I've used it as an opportunity to catch up on the Vlog; I'm now caught up in the snorkelling footage from a couple of days ago that I thought I wasn't going to be able to use. I've also been able to figure out how to tell the story of two action activities from yesterday where I had no video footage of the action! I think the plan I came up with has worked quite well, but I could be in a minority of one with that .... time will tell.

It was a hot, sticky and still day where the only escape was in the air conditioned comfort of the room, which is where I spent the afternoon. The completed laundry was returned to me mid-afternoon, all beautifully folded. I delved back into the book I had started, and time flew as early evening was soon upon me.

I decided the once again I'd take a leisurely walk to the pizza place as the food is great and really inexpensive for this part of the world; a 12 inch pizza and beer costs significantly less than a continental breakfast at the hotel.

Back to the hotel at 6.15, and once again everything is shut up. It's still uncomfortably hot, sticky and still, which means that the biting beasties are out in force, so once again I'll be enjoying the air conditioned coolness of my room while I read.

As a closing comment tonight, which is probably more of a 'note to self' that I should have learned previously ....... if you're going to have a short haircut before going somewhere tropical, you're probably going to get a sunburned scalp as that's not somewhere you habitually cream up. Lesson learned; probably not! I'm just being a little gentle with the comb!
