Day 6 - Wednesday 10 January 2024
'Tomorrow's another day' is how the saying goes; I ended yesterday tired and hungry, and that's never a good combination for me. Fast forward, and I've had the best nights sleep since leaving home, a fantastic breakfast and the world seems like an entirely different place.
I turned in just before 9 last night, and was awoken once during the night by the rain crashing against the roof of my bungalow; I rolled over and went back to sleep to wake up as it was getting light outside. Into breakfast at 6.45 after setting up the Gopro in the same spot as yesterday for another timelapse (but hopefully not 'on the huh' this time).
As I ate breakfast a rainstorm came in, so I left the Gopro running well after breakfast until the skies cleared, so hopefully that will look excellent. While I was waiting for this, I had a thought that it (and other clips I take) may be worth publishing uneditied with just a bit of added music and separate to the weekly vlog. What to call these? After mulling over a few options, I've settled on the moniker 'Bryan's Briefs' which I'll publish in the hope that they're not 'totally pants'.
Episode 1 of Bryan's Briefs can be found here (and yes, I do believe that it's still a little on the huh) ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7a4HvFt_UM
It's a bit of an overcast day, so I decided that it was time to start a new book as I made good use of the teabags that I bought from home; there is nothing quite so refreshing as a good cuppa when it's hot and humid.
I gave lunch a miss, and decided instead to test out the waterproofness (I know Seb; it's probably not a word, but does it sound like I care?) of my GoPro. The water was definitely a bit cloudy, but I jumped off the end of the pier (for want of a better word). There is a real drop off at the edge of the reef here, and I had a great half hour or so finding loads of fish to follow and capture on video. I clambered out, and returned to the room to extract the footage (after thoroughly rinsing in fresh water and meticulously drying off the GoPro) to discover that the footage I've captured cannot be read by this computer. I've changed the settings for when I try again so this shouldn't be an issue.
OK; what do I mean when I say 'this pier thing'. Difficult to explain; easier to show you:-
I went online during the afternoon to let some folks know about 'Bryan's Briefs' as I'd published the first short film. I had a response from my nephew Sebastian at 23:50 on a school night, so I enquired what he was doing online at that time of the day? What I got back was a critique on my grammar; not quite sure what my female grandparents have to do with this? Just remember two things Seb. Firstly, I passed my English O level in 1981 and really haven't needed any of it since then, so worrying about grammar 43 years later isn't on my mind. Second, (to coin a phase that's probably not in vogue any more) 'am I bovvered'?
Still, it was nice to have an online chat; next time I may even make it a real chat rather than text!
It reached 4.30, and I was determined that I wouldn't suffer the same fate as yesterday; I had looked at Google Maps, and pizza establishment just a 10 minute walk down the road comes highly rated. I decided that I'd aim to be there for 17.00 when they open, so I had pizza for my dinner; it was lovely, it was inexpensive, the staff were friendly so I will be back.
So; 24 hours on, and I've picked up all of my toys and have decided that I like this place after all. I have a big day tomorrow, so I'll catch you up after that. Cheers.
Note: for the non-Norfolk fraternity out there, 'on the huh' means askew or crooked, as in 'either that picture behind you is on the huh, or you are'.
